My Personal Growth.

(Geddit? because of my beard… I’ll show myself out.)

What’s been going on for the last couple weeks.

 The Hundreds

I like to mark every hundredth day with a special photograph. Usually, I will get a professional photographer, or graphic artist to mark the occasion. These benchmark days are very special to me as they tend to feel like chapter markers for my journey through the project.

The following are all the hundreds thus far. I’ve included links to the artists involved where appropriate. If you would like to be a part of my journey, hit the form link below. I’d love to have you along for the ride.

  • Day 100

My Partner, Stephanie Roth, shoots babies in the face for money. I could not have asked for a better, more appropriate and fun pic to start this off. I loved this whole shoot, it was so much fun.

Fun fact: I was laying on the floor in Steph’s studio for almost 2 hours while she meticulously placed the flowers in my hair and beard, and arranged the tiny shawl to look like I’m fully wrapped up.

  • Day 200

Stephen Pam is amazing. The guy is just hilarious, and incredibly interesting. He’s a commercial photographer and videographer here in Melbourne. When asked to be involved with the project, he didn’t hesitate for a second. He thought a corporate headshot would be ideal. The spatula was his idea. It’s from his own kitchen. What a fun day that was

Fun fact: The jacket is held shut with duct tape…

  • Day 300

What can I say about Shelton Muller! Shelton is one of my fav human beings full stop. When asked to participate, he wanted to do a digital rendition of “The Man With The Golden Helmet” by Rembrandt (or one of his students, apparently the jury’s still out on that one).

Fun fact: Shelton was the content creation guy at Timbecon for several years. He produced, shot, and edited most of their wildly successful YouTube channel.

  • Day 400

I sent a bunch of pics to Ridge Lowis author and illustrator of the Neon Angel Webcomic This is me as a character in his world (if I was in it...). I love this one so very much. I was thinking of making this into some Merch.

Fun fact: I sent Ridge about a dozen selfies and he sent this back to me in just a couple hours. It was a pretty impressive turnaround.

  • Day 500

Although primarily an illustrator these days, Flavia Mensen is also a brilliant photographer. This pic of us and our cats was the result of trying to remotely shoot an interesting photograph with her camera pointed at the computer organised over a Zoom call. I’m in my kitchen in Melbourne, she’s in her office in Brooklyn, NY. I’ve known Flavia Mensen for ever; another all time fav human beings.

Fun fact: This was insanely early in the morning for Flavs, 5AM or so. What a trooper.

  • Day 600

My partner Stephanie Roth again. This time we went with what’s known in the family photography game as a cake smash. Apparently, you get a small child in an adorable outfit and encourage them to trash your studio; fun!

Fun fact: We choose the most unflattering angle for my gut because it seemed hilarious at the time.

  • Day 700

This was another remote shoot, also over Zoom. Tamara Kawalski directed the shoot remotely, screen-capped, and edited the shot. Tamara is a total gun; photographer, graphic designer, van-life blogger, she does it all, and makes it look so easy.

Fun fact: Tam was there in May of 2008 when I met my partner Stephanie Roth.

  • Day 800

Day 800 just happened to fall on Valentine’s Day that year, so it only seemed appropriate to find an old pic of us post it. Nothing particularly interesting about the photo, but I love how young we look!

Fun fact: We met while working on a cruise ship. In this pic we are rather tipsy in the crew bar….

  • Day 900

I took this shot myself. I figured I’ve shot a bunch of these, let’s do one that I shot myself. Here’s me in my shop pointing at stuff. :)

Fun fact: That mallet, made by Mark Dainer, is amazing. I love it so much, it’s two different Aussie hardwoods and a bunch of skateboard decks. So very cool.

  • Day 1000

For the one thousandth day I simply posted a pic of both the first and thousandth photo together.

Fun fact: On day one I really did look like a turtle, huh.

  • Day 1100

These hundreds get a bit off the rail here. I’d been “flat out like a lizard drinking” for weeks on end at this point and simply forgot to organise something for the day. This is life I guess.

Fun fact: You can see a hint of a tattoo on my right shoulder here. I traded a pair of shoes for that tat. :)

  • #RAISINGTHERUF

    Day 1200

I shot this one as well. I figured it was about time little man made it into one of these. So little of life is about me anymore, in spite of my extremely vain selfie-a-day project.

Fun fact: There’s half a blueberry muffin in Rufie’s mouth here. He shoved it in there right before I took this pic; toddler comic.

  • Finger Soup

    Day 1300

I couldn’t find a single photographer in the known universe to shoot day 1300 so I did some graphic design work. I made a sign, want one? It’s pretty solid reminder.

Fun Fact: This design is available for purchase as a magnet, or free download form our shop!

  • #Blamedainer

    Day 1400

This time around on the Hundreds my guest artist is Mark Dainer who indelibly burned my face into some melamine and hung my likeness in his shop.

Fun Fact: This is not the first time Mark’s put my face on something in his shop. I can also be found on his “Schinbeinonator 3000” press, the video for which can be found in his YouTubings; “DainerMade”
