YouTubings.

The whole point of this Wizardly thing was a keep track of what I’ve learned and how I’ve evolved over time.

Our YouTube Channel is a completely natural extension of this. Here’s a couple vids that I rather like.

The ones that I like the best tend to revolve around making things for loved ones, or videos that are chock full of interesting ideas that might help someone else in their journey.

A while back, I asked my partner what she would like for her birthday. She drew me a rough sketch of some shelves she wanted for her shoes.

I did a collab with a friend from college, Ira Pelletier. We made a pair of Camp Stools.

My son, Rufus, needed a chair for his little desk/workbench. A triangular one seemed like the most fun challenge to make.

I bought a drum sander. I hate open stands. I needed a roller support. Planets aligned.

Now here we are.

The Beard Garden, a portrait by Stephanie Roth.

Be better today than you were yesterday. Everything else will fall into place as it should.

Biographical Nonsense.

On the 2nd of December, 2018 I shaved my head and face on the same day.

I looked like a turtle.

I had the rather fun thought; “I should do a selfie-a-day blog documenting my life as my hair and beard grow back out”.

Since then, We’ve moved house, had a couple kids, bought a car, survived a pandemic… This random thought has somehow turned itself into a rather interesting and multi-faceted business; we build furniture, make things from leather, build leather and wooden components for other businesses, help with the prototyping process through to the finished product, produce videos for ourselves and others, and marvel constantly at the long and winding road that is life.

The idea of the wizard as a life long scholar of life, the universe and everything has always held a particularly cozy place in my mind. The idea of new ideas seeming like magic to the ill-informed is a concept I am absolutely fascinated with.

I love that my beard has become a through-line for the narrative of my life. I am glad I gave up on the hair though, that skullet was starting to look feral….
